HustleBelt.com’s MACWood Squares: CMU
By TheChipReport.com
Hustlebelt.com has a tribute up to the one and only, Dan LeFevour but who else should be nominated for this prestigious square game award?
There are many greats to pass through our fine athletic programs, but if you could choose just one, who would it be? For the sake of having some chatter, who would you nominate aside from LeFevour?
Leave us a comment or write directly on TheHustleBelt.com.
TheHustleBelt.com works tirelessly to bring the very latest and best from the entire MAC. Seriously, check these guys out…

The only person more influential than Dan LeFevour in CMU Football history was CFB Hall of Famer, Herb Deromedi.
I’m unsure of the rules of nominating a coach but He simply must be on this list.
Antonio Brown has to be included. The things he did in 3 short years as a receiver and kick returner were amazing. I think you could argue Nick Bellore as a 4 year starter and just a beast at the LB spot. Really there are a lot of guys that could be picked from 06-09. Just an unbelievable 4 years of success.
Don’t know if basketball is included, but I’ll throw out Chris Kaman and Dan Majerle
Thanks Rob! I agree with all of those nominations.
Thanks, guys! All sports are fair game; even those unsung stars from the non-revenue sports.
I’ve decided not to include coaches on these lists unless they were great athletes themselves.
If I cannot vote for the great Herb Deromedi, I will try to think outside the current era a bit.
My nomination is CMU’s all-time leading rusher, Curtis Adams. While at CMU Adams rushed for 4,126 yards and led the Chippewas to a 29-13-2; including a 3-0-1 mark over the rival Broncos. Adams went on to be drafted by the San Diego Chargers and played 5 NFL seasons.
After doing some more digging on Curtis Adams, I was a little surprised he was not in the CFB hall of fame with Herb Deromedi.
This begs the question, “will Dan LeFevour get into the HOF?” What do you guys think?
Unfortunately LeFevour is all but certain to NOT reach the College Football Hall of Fame. For a player to be inducted, he must’ve been named a first-team All-American by a major publication.
In the sport of Basketball, I nominate: Don Edwards, Ben Kelso, Dan Roundfield, Dan Majerle, and Chris Kaman!
Nice, DOC!
In 1995-98 the receiving tandem of Reggie Allen and Bryan Schorman was really fun to watch. This pair is my nomination.
Awesome responses so far, everyone. Any nominations for baseball, wrestling or gymnastics?
For baseball how about Kevin Tapani, most wins of any former Chippewa in the majors
I’m with you there, Robby… Kevin Tapani has to be on this list.
While reading up on a few of these guys (Tapani, Allen, Schorman), I came across this:

It is now saved to my computer.
Majerle has to be the most obvious choice. He had a great CMU career AND a great NBA career. I love Lefevour….but at this point he hasn’t earned it based on his pro career. Maybe he’ll make it….and maybe he’ll be a lifelong Jim Sorgi??
WOW! Great question…many great athletes have worn our beloved Maroon & Gold. I am going to throw a name out there that I bet a lot of people have forgotten. DARREL STINSON, (Stinson’s son is now on the team). D. Stinson was a strong safety 89-93 and highly likely NFL prospect. He had some big time plays in the early victories over MSU. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL during the intermural basketball championship game the winter going into his Senior season. (He wasn’t able to play his Senior season).
By far one of the best athletes I have ever seen…(no disrespect to the other great Chippewas).
when i think of great cmu athletes i think someone like Chad PLieness sp? He played two of the more difficult sports in college in Basketball And baseball. I was all confrence in both sports and ended up getting drafted in the top 10 rounds in baseball. There were many great players for each sport but as far as an “athlete” Chad fits that description.
jim podoley. you had to see him to believe how great he was.
